5 Things I Wish I Would Have Done Earlier…
In my Online Journey, I’ve done a few things right… and a whole hell of a lot of things wrong. I fail, fail, fail, fail, fail, and then finally succeed… then the process seems to repeat itself. haha Part of the game I guess.
Having said that… there’s two ways to learn…
The school of hard-knocks
Through other peoples mistakes
Today, I want to share with you a couple of mistakes I made, so you can avoid them in your own journey, and so you can streamline your path to profits.
Alright… let’s dive in.
1. Invest in mentorship from the very beginning.
As many of you know, my first year Online wasn’t very profitable… Actually, I went $9,755 in debt, and ended up having to move 1/2 way across the country so I could afford to pay rent in New Mexico, (where it was significantly cheaper to live).
I realize now though, that if I would have taken 1/2 of that money and instead of spending it on courses, traffic, and whatever else I was spending it on, invest in mentorship, all of (or some of) my hardships could have been avoided.
The most DIRECT path to getting from wherever you are, to wherever you want to be, is through mentorship… and in this industry, the only way you’re going to get it is by investing in coaching with the high level entrepreneurs who are in the game and taking action.
It’s counterintuitive, but the truth is, that one of the most PROFITABLE things you can do in your business is to invest in yourself with mentorship.
When doing so, I’ve almost always come away with immediate info that can affect my bottom-line and recoup whatever I spent VERY quickly.
SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE ALWAYS INVEST IN THEMSELVES.
2. I would have focused on building my list from day one.
Once you have an e-mail list, things become SO much easier.
When you can send out an e-mail to ten thousand plus people with a link to an offer, a webinar registration link, or to your blog (which will equal sales if you’re doing things correctly), damn the whole process of making money online just becomes STUPID simple.
Currently in my own business, I know for a fact that at any given period of time, I can send out 3-4 e-mails, and get 100+ people registered for a webinar.
Then I can sell something on the webinar, and boom… money get’s sent to my bank account that night (if I sell my own products).
NOW THAT’S LEVERAGE.
When I first began, I spent thousands of dollars on traffic to be sent directly to various sales pages, which in turn led to me only making back about 50 cents for every $1 I spent. I didn’t know what was wrong, and I kept wasting money.
If I would have focused more intently on building my list, I could have easily recouped my investment within the first month of following up, and could have scaled from there.
ALWAYS INVEST IN YOURSELF, AND ALWAYS BUILD YOUR LIST.
3. I would have treated like a real business earlier. 😉
I think when most of us come Online, were not necessarily treating our activities like a real business. We bounce from one thing to another, and make a few sales here and there, and then even when we start to make a lot of sales, it kind of feels like this dream come true (which it is) vs. feeling like a real business.
It’s important to realize that once you start making money Online, guess what, you’re in business, and the IRS is going to want their cut. 😀
Me not taking this into account the first year I hit profit mode in my own business got me in a sticky situation with my taxes, and left me stressed and frustrated.
So… realize that while internet marketing can, and will give you all kinds of financial freedom, time freedom, and the lifestyle I know you’re really seeking…
At the end of the day, it’s a business, and you need to treat it accordingly if you want to do it for any period of time.
For me, I ended up getting really good at Solo Ads, but before that, I’d bounce from one thing to the next, constantly dipping my toes in the water, and never focusing on Mastery.
When it comes to traffic, here’s the deal…
Focus on learning ONE FORM OF TRAFFIC THAT WORKS…
And then only after you’re creating results with the source, move onto the next.
Once again, ONLY focus on learning additional traffic sources after you’re generating leads and sales, and creating a positive ROI with one form of traffic.
5. I would have focused on learning how to sell earlier.
I know I know, most people don’t like that word… “sell”… but here’s the deal… you’re only going to make money in your business when you embrace it, and when you decide to learn how to sell like the pros.
The skillset isn’t like anything else… it’s learnable by anyone, and when you take what I’ve already covered in this post in regards to traffic generation, list building, and mentorship, you’ll always have an audience of people to sell to through e-mail promotions, webinars, and J’Vs…
But remember… if you don’t know how to sell… you’re not going to make any money with your traffic, e-mail lists, or JV’s.
Focus on learning who you’re market really is, what their pains struggles and frustrations are, and then focus on learning how to create offers, sell through webinars, and followup with solid e-mail marketing.
If you do those things…
Build your list with one form of traffic generation that you’ve MASTERED…
Learn how to sell…
And then treat it like a REAL BUSINESS once you’ve started to make sales, you can surely avoid some of the hardships I personally dealt with in my own business, and can most definitely streamline the process it takes you to go zero to profits.
