My Views On E-mail List Unsubscribes…

I had an interesting conversation with a new PRO member of The Super Affiliate Network yesterday.

He had gotten started with The Super Affiliate Network, and had managed to generate his first 1,000 leads or so through using my Solo Ad lead generation strategies (an awesome accomplishment if I do say so myself).

Then a few days ago, after attending an e-mail marketing training I had done for the other Super Affiliate Network Pros, he implemented one of my strategies.

The strategy had to do with calling out freebie seekers and scorning the bad bevahiours of wanting something for nothing, wanting to get rich quick, and in general, not taking responsibility for ones results.

The strategy may sound funny, but in scorning this bad behvaiour, you immediately become magnetically attractive to people on the opposite end of the spectrum…

The people who have funds to invest, who will take the time to learn skillets, people who understand investing in themselves is the key to success, and in general just the people that you want to work with.

He took action and sent the email, but then immediately went into a little state of “e-mail list unsubscribe remorse”.

He had a higher than usual percentage of people unsubscribe, and from his perspective, that was a bad thing. It meant he was pissing people off, and pushing people out of his world (something he thought was a loss).

What I ended up telling him though, was that was the exact effect he was actually going after.

In writing up and sending that e-mail, he was going to be creating a sense of “us vs. them”.

The “us”… People who invest in themselves, take there business’s seriously, and in general, take action when you tell them to would be magnetically attracted… BUT, on the flipside, the people who made up “them”… Freebie seekers, people who want something for nothing, people who want the system to do all work for them, ect.  They’d be repelled and absolutely WOULD unsubscribe.

BUT, here’s the deal… That’s exactly what you want to have happen.

One of the reasons I can write e-mails that can produce thousands of dollars of cash on demand, is due to the fact that I not only know how to write, but also because I have the RIGHT PEOPLE on my list.

I consistently implement the exact same kind of strategies discussed above in my business, and as a result, over a long period of time I end up having a list of people who love the idea of investing in themselves, taking action, making things happen, and in general, happily pay to play.

If I wrote the exact same e-mails that I do on a daily basis but sent them out to the wrong people, well, there wouldn’t be any sales, and I’d be doing a whole lot of work for nothing.

The key is to realize that you can always go get more leads. It’s better to have a 100  person list than a 1,000 person list, but to have the right leads on your list who will pay you over and over and over again.

Having the wrong leads on your list will lead to excess complaints, a crazy amount of hate mail, and very, very, very low sales.

My final words of advice to my new member is this: You’re out there taking action and getting out of your comfort zone. You’re implementing what you learn, and are doing it at breakneck speed… All things that absolutely will lead to success. The only thing I’d adjust is how you judge success’s or failures.

Realize that when you don’t have the proper context for what’s a win and what’s a loss, you can’t really make an accurate judgement, and you set yourself up for failure. It’s like the newbie who’s irritated that they don’t get an 80% open rate, when the best copywriters in the world only ever see 10% – 15%.

Decide to approach every new action you take in your business as simply something you’re curious about testing… And then when you get a certain result your unsure of, take it to your mentor and get there advice on how you did.

Don’t immediately judge results without the proper context, and commit to being forever curious in your marketing journey.

Test, test, and then test some more, and then go get feedback from someone who’s been in the game for a while. That combination will set you up for many wins down the road. 🙂
