Q & A: “Why Do You Write Such Long E-mails, And Does It Hurt Click Thru Rates?”

 

After changing up the way I communicate with my audience about 2 months ago, people are starting to notice. Jim Torrenson asked, “Why Have You Started Writing Such Long E-mails, And Does It Hurt Click Thru Rates?”

Great question Jim.

It comes down to two things:

  1. Always communicating with the largest percentage of your audience possible
  2. Filtering out the tire kickers

1. In sending the majority of my written content out to my list in e-mail format vs. blog posts, I’ll reach a higher percentage of people. If I were to put it on the blog, I’d then only be reaching the people who opened the e-mail, read, clicked the link, and then read the content on the blog. By just sending in e-mail format, people only need to open the e-mail to consume it’s content.

2. By writing longer, value based e-mails, and then putting the links at least 1/2 way down the page, or further, I filter out the people who aren’t serious. If someone isn’t willing to take 20 minutes to read an entertaining or informative e-mail, they’re probably not the type of person I want to work with. By keeping the links at the bottom of each e-mail, and by keeping my e-mails packed with value and entertaining stories, the probability of me attracting people who want to work with me, and who are serious, vs. someone who is just a tire kicker, goes up.

So… remember to communicate with the largest percentage of your audience possible, and to filter out the tire kickers so you can spend your time on the 20% of people who will bring you 80% of the results!
