How Your Strengths Can Sometimes Be Your Weakness’s

Persistency and tenacity are two of my biggest strengths. I in no way, shape, or form am the best Marketer in the world, but I am one of the more persistent individuals I know of, which has allowed me to now build my business to the 5 figures/month mark after just turning 24.

Failure is no stranger to me in business, but again, my persistency has allowed me to overcome most failures through simply being able to metaphorically hit my head against the wall until I break it down.

Without my high levels of persistency, there would be no chance that I would have ever broke through, and I would have quit a long time ago.

Again… It’s a HUGE strength.

But at the same time, it can sometimes be a huge weakness.

I’ve gotten pretty decent at shooting videos over the last year, and usually have no problem getting one cut and clean in one or two takes.

But yesterday was a little bit different.

For some reason I just couldn’t find the flow. I kept tripping up on my words every third sentence, and started to get frustrated.

I continued to shoot, and continued to fail, and continued to get more frustrated.

I literally must have spent about 2 hours trying to shoot a simple 5 minute thank you page video that would be a cinch 9/10 days of the week. My persistency WOULDN’T let me give up… and I kept trying. Over and over and over again I’d shoot, mess up, get frustrated, reshoot, mess-up, get more frustrated, and let the process continue.

After 2 hours of total failure, I finally had to throw in the towel utterly frustrated and completely over it so I could make a phone appointment.

I picked up the phone and started talking with my teammate, and he immediately asked if I was pissed off at him. I wasn’t, but instead was just extremely frustrated at myself. I apologized and explained the situation.

In retrospect, my persistency, the one thing that has helped me breakthrough and get over more platues in every area of life is what had gotten me in trouble. I would have been much better off to stop after a half hour and begin to focus my energy on another one of the cash-flow producing activities that I could have completed with that time.

So ask yourself, “what is my biggest strength”, and then ask yourself, “does that same strength sometimes hold me back, and if so, when and where?”

Maybe you absolutely love traffic generation. You love finding keywords, setting up ads, building capture pages, and generating leads, but maybe because of that you’re not spending nearly enough time on following up with those leads and building a solid relationship with your list. Maybe you LOVE attraction marketing, and love providing value, but aren’t injecting enough actual offers into your content and e-mails because you’re favorite thing to do is provide value.

Identify your strengths, be thankful for those strengths, but also make sure that those strengths aren’t holding back your business’s numbers from increasing.
